If Camp Goes Deep, Mentoring Goes Wide.
What is broken in relationships must be healed in relationships. Our five-day Royal Family KIDS Camp creates a safe space where children entering or already in the foster care system can build trust and begin healing. It breaks barriers and goes deep.
But healing is a journey that requires consistent support. That’s where our mentoring program comes wide. Dependable, consistent contact with the same safe adults is critical to building on that trust and forming lasting, life-changing relationships.
Our Royal Family KIDS mentoring program brings together skills mastery, character building, and intentional fun—plus individualized attention from trained adults who serve as effective role models.
Why Mentoring Matters
Research shows that even one school year of commitment from a mentor makes a massive difference, and children from the most difficult situations benefit the most. Disadvantaged children who are matched with a mentor are:
59% more likely to earn better grades.
52% less likely to skip school.
46% less likely to use illegal drugs.
90% more likely to volunteer in their own communities.
By becoming an FTC mentor, you are actively choosing to shift the predictable path of a child in foster care from feeling unloved to feeling hopeful again.
How Mentoring Works
"I’m too busy to be a mentor."
Our program is uniquely structured to fit your schedule. Mentors and mentees meet just once a month in a group setting (Mentoring Club). This regular, manageable routine is well-spent time that leaves a permanent impact on a child's heart.
"I don’t know how to be a mentor."
You don't need any special skills or prior experience. When you join the FTC Abilene mentoring network, we provide you with comprehensive training and a fully developed curriculum based on the proven, trauma-informed TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) methodology. You’ll also be surrounded by a supportive community of peer mentors.
"I can't commit for a lifetime."
Raising healthy children takes a village, but you don't need to mentor for a lifetime to make a difference. The FTC mentoring schedule operates in manageable cycles of 6 to 9 months with clear beginning and end dates.
Ready to Make a Difference in Abilene?
Every child in our community deserves to experience unconditional love, hope, and safety. If you have a desire to nurture the hearts and minds of children who have experienced relational trauma, we want to hear from you.
